Metal Detection Conveyors: Plastic injection molding and blow molding processors don’t always recognize the importance of using metal detection conveyors as part of their parts processing lines. Metal contaminants can join or become incorporated with molded parts or scrap plastic as it is conveyed through various stages of the manufacturing process. Contamination can range from tiny particles worn off by equipment abrasion to entire nuts or bolts loosened by vibrations in processing machines. There’s also the human factor: Inevitably, items such as coins, pens and paperclips will occasionally fall into the product stream.

For this reason, metal detection conveyors are used throughout the plastics industry to safeguard processing equipment and to ensure product purity. Metal detector conveyors keep product under strict surveillance and prevent unnecessary machine downtime and costly maintenance.

Metal detector conveyors are ideal for inspecting plastic scrap for metal contaminants as scrap is conveyed to grinders. Early detection of metal can prevent severe damage to grinder blades and subsequent fouling of injection systems and molded plastic products (where product liability issues can result).

Metal detection conveyors are capable of detecting all metals – steel, aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel. Electronic controls have a built-in diagnostics circuit, which monitors all functions of the unit’s metal detector. In the event of a fault, the conveyor will be stopped and an audible and/or visual alarm will display.
