Can’t find workers? Maybe it’s time for automation

By June 30, 2021March 11th, 2024No Comments

Automation may be the only solution available as employers continue to struggle with finding workers. “I can’t find people” is heard everywhere. It doesn’t matter what geographic portion of the country you’re in or what industry you’re in. It’s an ongoing issue that isn’t going away any time soon.

Automation is here to stay. Demographics are changing and it’s not going to get easier to find employees. In 2019 it was reported that nearly 25% of the manufacturing workforce is aged 55 or older. By 2035, retirement-age Americans will outnumber those under the age of 18. The lack of an available workforce is likely to lead to higher wages and accelerate the desire for automation.

Adaptable

Manufacturing plants that are highly automated operate with fewer workers. Technology and automation improve efficiency and limit the number of employees needed.

If 2020 taught us anything, it was “to be adaptable or die”. The best automation process will be adaptable. It will give you flexibility of use for multiple products. With a requirement for little to no changeover, the ideal automation system will be able to adapt for use with several of your products.

Prolonged Use

Think beyond the current process. Will your new automation process include the ability to be modified as the company grows? Try to think beyond your immediate needs and consider automation that will give you the ability to change along with your operation. Find a supplier that will give you an automated process that can be reconfigured to meet the needs of your new process. Reconfiguration will give you prolonged use well beyond your initial needs.

Be assured that implementing automation in your plant will increase your efficiencies while decreasing your need to find more workers.
